Sharof Boshbekov (1951)

He was born on the 4 th of January, 1951 in the village Gubir, Bulungur district, Samarkand region. He graduated from the Musical Acting Department of the Institute of Arts in 1974. He worked as an actor in Mukimiy Musical Theatre in Tashkent and in the theatre of Guliston. In 1983-1985 he worked in the writer’s Union of Uzbekistan and in 1986-1987 in the National Theatre of Uzbekistan.

His works such as “Taqdir eshigi” (The door of Fate), “Eski shahar Gavroshlari” (Vegabonds of the old city), “Temir xotin” (Iron woman) have been staged in the theatres of many former Soviet Republics.

He was also engaged in film-making activity. On the basis of his screenplays such films as “Yuzsiz”, “Tilla bola”, “Temir xotin”, “Ma’ruf va Sharif”, “Masxaraboz” are prepared.

Especially the TV serial “Charxpalak” (The watermill) has won a great popularity among the audience. The dramaturgy of Sharof Boshbekov is more peculiar for its personages and language rather than for its plot. He was awarded the State Prize of Uzbekistan for his work “Temir xotin” (Iron woman).

In 1999 he received the title of “Honorary Fellow of Culture”. In 2001 he was awarded the order of “Mehnat shuhrati”.
