Sidqiy Hondayliqiy (1884-1934)

Sidqiy Hondayliqiy was a well-known poet, translator, artist and calligrapher, author of the poems of new literary trend. He was born in the village Hondailiq of Tashkent region. In 1903 he came to Tashkent and studied in the madrasah “Beklarbegi”. His penname was also “Shavkat” and he edited works in two volumes called “Tuhfai Shavkat” (Tashkent, 1913) and “Savghoti Shavkat” (Tashkent, 1914). In some of his poems he used the penname “Shevan”, “Iskandariy” and later on he choosed the penname Sidqiy.

Even he changed old poems with Sidqiy. His “Devoni Sidqiy” is possible in the library of the Oriental Institute’s #7629 and other works also available there: #7630, 7631, 7632, 7633.

His poetry is devoted to satire and policy (“Muhoraba”, “Rabotchilar namoyishi”, etc.). Sidqiy was an author of prosaic works such as “Tazkirai Imomi Azam”, “Sad irshodi mulla Sidqiy-Hondayliqiy”, “Mezoni shariat”, “Zarbulmasali Sidqiy”. He knew well Persian and Arabic and did some translations. He translated into Uzbek Sadi-Sheroziy’s “Boston”, “Hikoyai Latifa”, “Bahrom va malikai Gulandom”, “Risolai Karima”, “Ajoyibul-mahluqot”, “Oghri va qozi”.

His biography “Holoti Sidqiy” (1924) was added to his work “Iktisob”. His works are devoted to the development of national renaissance. His life and inherit was studied by NUU prof. B. Qosimov, A.Jalolov, R.Javharova and others.
